“Seeing all this, Japanese newspapers have no intention of giving away on the Web what their readers remain willing to pay for in print…”
So the papers in Japan guard their business by refusing to give away content online so readers will keep buying their dead-tree medium. Does anyone else find this ridiculously short-sighted? Hmm, I guess it might work for now but it definitely isn’t a sustainable business model. It would be almost effortless for a new player to disrupt the market by offering free quality content online.
Cutting edge DJing from Richie Hawtin: He’s come a long way from his seminal Decks, EFX & 909 album. I can imagine DJing purists saying how you don’t really need skills now and everyone can DJ thanks to Traktor (the software featured in this video) but then Hawtin says that it frees him up to think about the more important and creative aspects of performing, collaborating and making music - I’d like to think that not everyone transcends to this level of thinking once technology’s automated their low-level processes. Social scientists have a name for this sort of incessant online contact. They call it “ambient awareness.”

I’d be stoked if this turns out to be the new visualiser in iTunes 8. It could pass off as a real music video. Just imagine this playing to any of the recent Radiohead pieces. [via Mac Rumors]
